Project Date: Jun-Oct 2015
About the Project:
The Youth Affairs Council of Victoria Inc. (YACVic) is the peak body and leading policy advocate on young people’s issues in Victoria. As part of a scoping exercise to inform the set-up of new YACVic sites in rural/regional Victoria, YACVic engaged Storyscape to run Participatory Video Workshops in three regional towns. The workshops formed part of a consultation process with service providers and young people. Project aims included: forming an evaluation baseline; gaining an understanding of the issues young people are facing; sharing skills; and providing a fun activity for engagement. Young people decided on the focus and concept, and were then supported to make the films. Across the three towns film topics included: stereotyping and mental health; the effects of growing up around alcohol; the pressure of drinking alcohol; and information about the drug Ice.
