Project Partners: Parks Victoria and Blind Sports Victoria

Project Date: Mar-Jun 2013

Funding: The Victorian Government through the Healthy Parks Healthy People Active in Parks Program.

About the Project:
Through the Healthy Parks Healthy People Active in Parks Program, Parks Victoria is assisting people with a disability to be more active and feel healthy by improving their access to Victoria’s natural environment. Parks Victoria approached Blind Sports Victoria with the aim of encouraging people who are blind or have a vision impairment to get more involved in Victoria’s parks. As a result the Walk in the Park program was established, which arranged day walks to parks surrounding Melbourne. In the second year the program, and for the first time, Parks Victoria and Blind Sports Victoria collaborated to organise a 3-day walking trip to Wilsons Promontory National Park. This film produced by Storyscape documents the walking trip held at Wilsons Promontory, as well as the views and experiences of walking group participants, volunteers and staff members who took part.
