Client: Victoria Police, City of Port Phillip, St Kilda Primary School
Project Date: Oct 2017 – Mar 2018
About the Project:
In this project initiated by Victoria Police, Grade 5 students at St Kilda Primary School took part in a two-day creative project facilitated by Storyscape to discuss things that made them feel safe and unsafe on the streets in their community. They explored these themes through the eyes of people who have experienced homelessness, police, teachers, parents, and children. The project aimed to foster empathy, highlight safety issues from young peoples’ perspective and to also discuss what to do when feeling unsafe. Students expressed themselves through improvised theatre, and the production of photographs, stories, poems, music and a short film. Workshops were delivered with Melbourne Playback Theatre, music producer Monkey Marc, and MC Mantra. The group held a launch of their work to large school and community audiences at St Kilda Town Hall in March 2018 and are looking at taking their show on the road!
