About the Project:
As part of the Morwell 4 Kids initiative, Storyscape worked with Berry Street to run a series of creative workshops with children and young people from Morwell to share their views on growing up in Morwell, and their dreams for the future of the town and its children. Together with hip hop artist Mantra and video producers Newborn Productions, we ran participatory photography, music, filmmaking and storytelling workshops with local primary and high school students on being a kid in Morwell. The films and photo story exhibition called “As They See It” was launched to a large local crowd at Morwell Library with speeches made by the young people taking part.
Morwell 4 Kids is a Collective Impact Initiative that responds to evidence that children growing up in the town of Morwell are developmentally vulnerable, despite there being a broad range of early childhood services within the town. A local coalition called the Morwell Community Partnership is leading the initiative and was established with the vision of making Morwell “A Good Childhood Place”. Storyscape’s work with Berry Street formed part of the initial community engagement and information gathering phase of the project.
